about tribes

The Bhil tribe, found primarily across the central and western parts of India were historically known for serving as warriors for the kings because of their impeccable knowledge of the terrain.

In matrilineality and usually the inheritance of property along with the child carrying forward the family name is from the mother’s end.

The Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people (along with the Nair and Bunt castes) believe in matrilineality- a system, where descent is traced through the mother and her ancestors,

In 2005, one of Israel’s chief Rabbis accepted the Bnei Menashe people as descendants of the lost tribes

The Bnei Menashe tribe, found in Manipur and Mizoram, are descendants of the Lost Tribes of Israel who have converted back to the religion of their ancestors after rediscovering their roots.

Birsa Munda, a freedom fighter in the Indian Independence Struggle, belonged to the Munda tribe that is primarily found in Jharkhand. He was one of the key leaders who led the struggle movement in the tribal belt of Bihar and Jharkhand.

The Jarawa tribe from Andaman and Nicobar Islands is one of the last surviving tribes on the island.

The Gaddi tribe from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are among the few tribes in India that still have a nomadic lifestyle.

War-Khasi, a sub-tribe of Khasi from Meghalaya, have built living root bridges from the Ficus Elastica tree in Cherrapunji that are strong enough to support the weight of 50 people at once.
